Coating Systems

Three chemistries. One 20-year outcome.

Every GAF HydroStop system cures to a fully bonded, seam-less membrane over your existing roof. The chemistry we pick depends on your climate, existing substrate, ponding-water exposure, and warranty horizon.

Silicone
Best for ponding water + sun exposure
100% silicone top coat — completely waterproof, UV-stable, and unaffected by standing water. Ideal for Florida flat roofs and any roof with drainage issues. 10, 15, or 20-year warranty (thickness scales by tier).
Acrylic
Best for dry climates + reflective needs
Premium acrylic base + top coat system. Brilliant white finish for maximum reflectivity (lowers cooling load), excellent adhesion on prepped substrates, 10–20 year warranty tiers available.
Hybrid
Best-of-both — acrylic base + silicone top
Acrylic base coat for adhesion and reflectivity + silicone top coat for waterproofing. Our most-specified system in the Midwest. Handles freeze-thaw, snow load, and occasional ponding without compromise.
Warranty Tiers

Thickness. Not marketing.

Warranty years aren't a pricing gimmick — they're a direct function of how thick we apply the coating. More gallons per square means a thicker film, which means longer service life. Here's what scales with each tier.

10-Year

What We Coat

If you have a flat or low-slope roof, we can coat it.

GAF HydroStop is engineered to bond to virtually every commercial roofing substrate. Our inspections confirm compatibility before we write the proposal.

TPO / PVC
Primer required; coats cleanly once properly prepped. Extends life 10–20 years past original warranty.
EPDM
Needs wash + primer; coating re-seals every seam and eliminates aged rubber brittleness.
Modified Bitumen
Excellent coating substrate. Coating stops alligatoring, seals granule loss, restores UV barrier.
Built-Up Roof (BUR)
Our most common substrate. Coating completely eliminates gravel migration and seals tar seams.
Metal (R-Panel / Standing Seam)
Rust stabilization + fastener sealing + white reflective top. Stops leaks, extends life 15+ years.
Foam (SPF)
Foam's ideal coating partner — silicone top restores UV barrier and waterproofing without a tear-off.
The Install

What actually happens on install week.

Day 1
Power Wash & Prep
3,000 PSI wash removes contamination, oxidation, loose granules. Seams and flashings inspected and repaired.
Day 2
Primer & Reinforcement
Primer where the substrate requires it. Reinforcement fabric embedded over seams, drains, penetrations, and parapet junctions.
Day 3–5
Base + Top Coats
Base coat applied to spec thickness. Overnight cure. Top coat applied to warranty-tier thickness. Second cure.
Day 6–7
Final Inspection & Warranty Registration
Wet-film thickness verification, drone documentation, GAF warranty registration submitted. You receive the certificate within 30 days.
